Montana, the fourth largest state in the United States by land area, comes 44th in population, with approximately 967,000 residents. In November of 1889, Montana became the 41st state to enter the U.S. Montana is famous for the Battle of Little Bighorn, Glacier National Park, and it has three of the five entrances to Yellowstone National Park, which draws a large number of tourists each year. Billings, the largest city in Montana, has approximately 152,000 residents, while the capital Helena is home to only about 72,000 people.
While tourism is an important part of Montana’s economy, so is agriculture. Montana primarily produces wheat, barely, sugar, beets, oats, rye, seed potatoes, honey, and cherries. Cattle and sheep ranching are also a popular industry throughout Montana. Currently, the auto industry has not yet created a mark for itself in Montana.
Although Montana does not have any auto plants in the state, it hopes to build a fuel plant in the future. The goal of Bioroot Energy and Standard Alcohol Company of America is to build a plant in Montana where they can produce a clean, green fuel for cars. Here, they would produce a fuel called E4 Envirolene to fuel cars. This fuel can be made out of just about anything, which would also reduce waste.
