Georgia is a state located in the nation’s southeast and it has had a very interesting history. One of the original 13 colonies, Georgia became the fourth state in 1788. In 1861, Georgia seceded from the Union and became a part of the Confederacy during the Civil War. Georgia finally rejoined the United States in 1870. The capital city of Atlanta is also the largest in terms of size and population. Georgia is bordered by Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and the Atlantic Ocean.
For decades, auto manufacturers have produced vehicles in Georgia. Domestic manufacturers like Ford and General Motors were leaders in Georgia production but have since closed their plants. Although domestic manufacturers have left Georgia, this has only made more room for international companies. Porsche and Lotus have their North American headquarters in the Peach State. Kia Motor Corporation has opened a massive billion-dollar manufacturing plant in West Point, Georgia, that is slated to produce over 300,000 vehicles annually.
In addition to car manufacturers, there are other automotive related manufacturing operations based in Georgia. Pirelli Tire and Toyo Tires have manufacturing operations in Georgia. Blue Bird, the world’s largest manufacturer of school buses, is also located in Georgia.
