About Connecticut

Connecticut is the third smallest state in the country. It borders New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Being on the eastern seaboard near Massachusetts, Connecticut was very active during the American Revolution and was one of the 13 colonies that revolted against British rule. The capital of Connecticut is Hartford, but the largest city is actually Bridgeport.

While there is not a deep history of automotive manufacturing in the state of Connecticut, there are rumors of the state being very involved with new innovation in the near future. In a world of vanishing oil reserves and global warming caused by the emission of greenhouse gases, environmentally friendly transportation is a necessity. The green movement seemingly started out as a popularity contest, but it is really beginning to take off.

Hybrid cars and plug-in electrics are becoming the most popular forms of transportation and are also saving the environment. Connecticut was recently added to a list put out by General Motors as one of the first markets in which the Chevrolet Volt will be released in early 2011. The Volt is a plug-in electric car with an estimated 40-mile range on pure battery power. When the batteries are depleted, a small gasoline engine kicks on to generate more electricity for the vehicle. This innovation is different from hybrids like the Toyota Prius because the gasoline engine does not connect to the drive train of the car at all, it merely serves as an electricity generator.
